In Loving Memory

In Loving Memory of my Dad

The Gentle Man
(This beautiful song and words were written by Brother Brown who was my parents Home Teacher. This song was sung at the funeral and accompanied with violins and cello. To understand the words better you must know that my dad loved working with the Scouts and helping the young men be successful in life, in all that they did. He has been given many mentor pins.)

Right over left, and left over right
Pull the ends and the knot pulls tight
Point the arrow and turn the top
Adjust the degrees, find where to go and stop

Follow simple rules and you won’t lose your way
You’ll know what to do on any night or day
Pray for light when darkness closes in
Pray for a guiding hand and to begin again

Let’s gather around, let’s read a few
Find out who we should be, find out what we should do
We will bow our heads, and we will bend our knees
We’ll seek to help the one with our heavenly pleas

You might teach by the ‘don’t’, but you best lead by the ‘do’
And show them what to learn as they follow you
Never timid be, give them good times to see
And they will follow suit, and good men they’ll want to be

A gentle man, a humble friend
A guide to the young with many a mentor pin
A father of four, a good husband to one
A brother to many, and a righteous son

In those difficult days your faith remained unchanged
You sought out the Lord, His path for you to arrange
The decent days of your life have been a good lesson taught
And now as you go His way the good fight you’ve fought.

Farming is Not for the Weak

We just loaded up the baby goats to send to the auction tomorrow. I am on the verge of tears. I purposely did not name them this year because I know from previous experience not to get "too" attached, but I don't think it worked.

Farming of animals is not for the weak of heart. I am literally playing "God" with the animals, deciding when they can breed, when they eat, when they die, and some times they die because of my ignorance which makes my heart ache.

I held my milking goat, Cossette, as she took her last breath the Sunday I found out my father had brain cancer two weeks ago. I never thought I would be crying over a goat, but I felt like my world had stopped again. This year I am being humbled. This year I have learned more than EVER that I need my Savior EVERY HOUR. To guide me in everything I do.

My prayers have been wrong. I have been praying for specific things to happen such as "help my garden to grow."  I should have been praying, "Guide me know what I must do to help my garden grow."  The prayer I keep repeating over and over now is, "Help me to endure this well." I pray that my works can still give God glory, even in my most difficult moments.
