My first born has turned 2 in August. Time is passing by so quickly and I try to burn moments into my memory. For Alexander's birthday this year (last minute) we took him and two of his neighbor friends, Jackson and David, to the Union Station to look at trains. Alexander absolutely loves trains...especially Thomas the Train.
On our way home to eat cake and open presents, a drunk driver almost ran us off the road. The individual was swerving all over the road and into oncoming traffic. To make a long story short the person ended up hitting a truck at a stop light and tried to back up to get away but we pinned them in with our car. It was crazy! The whole time we followed the driver we were on the cell phone with the police giving them the location. I'm so glad that no one was seriously hurt.
Later that evening we decided to take Alexander up to the family cabin. When we arrived it was dark but Alexander was stoked to be there. He was running around, in and out of the cabin so we decided to sit on the porch swing and look at the stars. Alexander ran inside and a minute later came back out holding an opened bottle of 20 year old Old English polish cleaner with it running out of his mouth!! I checked the bottle and it said not to induce vomiting but to take to a hospital immediately because it is life threatening. Luckily Jon was with us so we had a cell phone to call poison control where they told us to get him to a hospital right away, that the effects could take place anywhere from a few minutes to several hours. Talk about making my heart sick!!!! We were an hour away from a hospital and 25 minutes from a clinic.
We ended up getting him to an emergency clinic where he received antibiotics. It ended up that he had double ear infections and the medication needed to clear up his ears was the same medication they would give him to treat any symptoms from the poison. We kept him up half the night and then monitored him the rest. And you know what? He ended up being just fine.
I can't tell you all the thoughts that went through my mind on the VERY FAST car ride to the clinic. Let's just say that it made me take an even closer evaluation of myself and my faith. In the end my gratitude has widened, my testimony strengthened and my love deepened for my family and for my Heavenly Father. I still thank him everyday for giving me more time to be a mother to my children and a wife to my Gordon.
Welcome to the crazy age of 2!
