Saturday morning we drove past all the beautiful genetically modified corn fields and entered the swampy greens along the Mississippi river to the beautiful city of Nauvoo. Although I have visited there many times before the scenic views and reverent spirit takes my breath away.
We were greeted soon after visiting the famous Fudge Factory by a wonderful thunderstorm. We still headed over to see the Nauvoo Pageant in the rain, once the lightening stopped popping, covered in black trash bags. The pageant was FANTASTIC! I was tearing up pretty good at the end and so was everyone else around me that I could see.
The Salt Lake Temple's Angel faces East while the Nauvoo Temple's Angel faces West, just like two book ends with volumes of testimonies of those Saints that sacrificed so much to live and teach the gospel in between.

Did you realized that the Saints had only 4 hours notice before they headed out of Nauvoo? Brigham Young had been telling them for over a year to prepare to leave, but they did not know the day or hour they would leave. Knowing this puts more emphasis on BEING PREPARED and FOLLOWING THE COUNSEL of the Prophet to get food storage and emergency things together.
Between those that fought to create a free nation and those Saints that sacrificed everything so we could practice our faith in peace, we have an amazing heritage.
